A landform is any of the different shapes of Earth’s land. A landform is a natural formation of Earth’s surface. Earth’s surface has many different types of landforms. Some examples are mountains, valleys, and plains. A mountain is a landform that is very high above the Earth’s surface. Mountains have pointed tops and steep sides. A hill is a raised area of land smaller than a mountain. Hills are small heaps of land. They are not as high or steep as a mountain. A plateau is a large flat area of land that is higher than areas of land that surround it. The region where the oceans meet the land is called the coast. Some coasts are rocky. Others are sandy with beaches. An island is a landform that is entirely surrounded by water.
